It focuses on the self-reported experiences of Hijra or transgender people who recognize their gender individuality as contradictory to the one they were attributed at birth. It is a qualitative study, which is based on twenty-four in-depth interviews and ethnographic accounts. It studies the diverse and distinct Hijra subculture of Kashmir. It also evaluates the overall social, economic and the psychological problems of Hijra or transgender community of Kashmir. It accesses the need and approach to be followed to rehabilitate and reintegrate them in the mainstream.
