Kusum was a very poor girl who was married 20 years ago to Brindaban who dissapeared and was off to pursue his education as a doctor. He returns to his old town but does not remember his marriage to Kasum and had besides married a new bride. How the two resolve this problem is the heart of this popular Hindi motion picture.
