Mrityudand is an Hindi drama film released in 1997. It was directed and produced by Prakash Jha. The story of three women in a Bihar village. Ketaki, a newlywed, see her life deteriorate as her husband becomes an alcoholic. Chandravati is abandoned by her husband of 17 years and takes up with one of the family's hired help. Kanti is a servant who husband has to leave the village to pay off a debt and she helps him by turning to prostitution. These three women teach other women to be independent, and the whole village becomes embroiled in strife.
