"It is only in the last decade that white-collar crimes, once unheard of in India, have grown exponentially and the nation has seen financial frauds to the tune of several hundred billion rupees affecting the economy severely. Such crimes have also raised questions over the security of the financial world, banking sector, tax and other public sector activities being marred by corruption and fraud, besides other challenges created by the increased use of technology. White-collar crimes have also eroded the State’s resources for public welfare activities and infrastructure development. The primary attempt of White-Collar Crimes is to spread a general awareness among the legal fraternity as well as the public at large about the various types of such crimes which have plagued the country. The book chiefly focuses on different laws enacted by the legislature, along with relevant rules and regulations, to check white-collar crimes such as corruption, banking and tax frauds, money laundering, black money, adulteration of food supplies and corporate frauds among others. This book also discusses the role of various law enforcement agencies and the adjudication process for such crimes. For a better understanding of such statutes and their scope, many judgments of the Supreme Court of India, various High Courts and Tribunals have also been cited, where they have dealt with important questions of law."--
