The stranger, Abdul Rehman Khanis, is from Afghanistan, and when he sets out for India (Hindustan) for a short time to make enough money to pay his debts, he is heartbroken at leaving his little daughter behind. In India, he finds an emotional stand-in for his daughter in the daughter of a famous poet, and while constantly remembering his own offspring, he showers attention on the "adopted" little girl, Mini. Then one day a corrupt landlord drives him to commit murder and his future with his own daughter and the surrogate daughter suddenly takes a downward turn as he goes off to prison for ten years. He comes back but has been forgotten. Mini is getting married and she does not recognize him. In a heart breaking climax, as he prepares to go home, he realizes in horror that his own daughter, if she is still alive, will also see him as a stranger. Time waits for no one.
